GAZPROM STARTS IN HALABJA

BASNEWS. Gazprom Neft, a subsidiary of Gazprom, will begin drilling for oil exploration in Halabja in June 2014.

The governor of Halabja told BasNews that Gazprom Neft will start its operation in Halabja and that some oil fields have already been found in the province.

Gazprom has issued an exploration program and is waiting for approval from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Natural Resources in order to start drilling.

Oil reserves in the Halabja block are estimated at between 630 million and 790 million barrels.

Halabja is the third oil block acquired by Gazprom Neft in the Kurdistan Region. The company, which has previously acquired interests in the Garmian and Shakal blocks, secured an 80% operating stake in the Halabja block.

The Qatari energy firm Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco) is also waiting for the Kurdistan Region's response to work in Halabja.
