RUSSIA VS UKRAINE: ENERGY INTENSITY
The Ukrainian and Russian economies are among the most energy-intensive in Europe, despite progress in energy efficiency in the industrial sector and the closure of some of the most energy-intensive industries. In 2012, Ukraine's energy intensity, i.e. the ratio of total primary energy supply to gross domestic product in purchasing power parity terms, was 2.76 times the IEA average. Russia's was 2.69 times the IEA average.
