Energoatom has selected Westinghouse AP1000 technology for their long-term goals to develop new NPPs in Ukraine.

Energoatom will initiate the development of draft bilateral documents and measures aimed at deepening Ukrainian-American nuclear cooperation with the support of Westinghouse.

“We expect that the dialogue launched this year will give us an opportunity to find practical common interests for establishing cooperation between Energoatom and Canadian partners,” said Energoatom Acting President Petr Kotin.

Naftogaz also wants to force Russia to allow other Russian producers to be able to export pipeline gas via Ukraine to Europe.

Ukraine's electricity grid needs the construction of new nuclear power units, Yuriy Boyko, the country's deputy energy minister said last week.

Wind accounts for around 2% of Ukraine’s installed capacity, with 1.3 GW (2019). Over 1.7 GW of wind projects are at various stages of development.

All of Ukraine's 15 nuclear power units - at Rovno, Zaporozhe, South Ukraine and Khmelnitsky - are operated by state-run Energoatom.

Westinghouse Electric Co said on 30 September that it had signed an agreement with nuclear utility Energoatom to increase nuclear fuel supplies for Ukraine's reactors. It currently supplies fuel for six of Ukraine's VVER-1000 reactors with a seventh due to be added year.

While occupancy rates of gas storages around Europe approach full capacities, gas infrastructure in Ukraine becomes attractive.
