Westinghouse loaded its accident tolerant fuel into a US commercial reactor in the spring of 2019.

The new fuel will make nuclear power plants both safer and more cost-efficient.

Lead test assemblies of EnCore accident tolerant fuel (ATF) have been installed in Engie Electrabel's Doel unit 4 in Belgium, Westinghouse Electric Company and ENUSA Industrias Avanzadas (ENUSA) have announced.
