France and Sweden will "promote a regulatory, industrial and financial framework favourable to the realisation of nuclear installation projects with a high level of safety and ensuring institutional support for nuclear energy in compliance with the principle of technological neutrality and with the objective of strengthening Europe's sovereignty and energy security".

The agreement also said necessary regulations should be developed to create the conditions for the construction and operation of small modular reactors (SMRs) in Sweden. In addition, the permitting process for nuclear power plants must be shortened.

Sweden's six nuclear power reactors provide about 40% of its electricity. In 1980, the government decided to phase out nuclear power, but parliament repealed this policy in 2010.

The parties said the conditions for investments in nuclear power must be strengthened. The new government will provide special credit guarantees totalling SEK400 billion (USD35.7 billion), "with more generous terms than today's system"

The Vidar and Poseidon projects, located off Sweden’s west coast near Gothenburg, will primarily consist of floating wind turbines and will be able to generate 10.5 TWh/year of electricity when fully developed.

The Norwegian company Deep Wind Offshore has initiated a consultation on a 6 GW floating offshore wind project in the Swedish Baltic Sea comprising 240 x 25 MW or 300 x 20 MW turbines.

The Aurora project, which will be located 20 km south of Gotland and 30 km east of Öland, consist of up to 370 turbines with a maximum height of 370 meters.

Swedish Modular Reactors has been granted just over SEK99 million ($10.6m) in support of demonstrating a smaller lead-cooled reactor. Solkompaniet Sverige has been granted SEK14.4 million to support demonstrating a smart solar park.

Sweden targets 120 TWh of power generation at sea, which would cover most of its current electricity consumption (around 140 TWh/year).

The Swedish Energy Agency has now awarded the partners SEK99 million to put towards building an electrically powered non-nuclear prototype SEALER at Oskarshamn for testing and verifying materials and technology in an environment of molten lead at high temperatures.
