The ARC-100 has also been selected for a demonstration project at NB Power's existing Point Lepreau nuclear power plant site as part of a joint strategic plan for SMR deployment set out earlier this year by the provincial governments of Ontario, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick and Alberta Canada’s SMR Roadmap.

“The UAE could be a key player and deliver 25 percent of the production of the global low-carbon hydrogen market by 2030,” the report reads.

Under this strategy, India plans to expand its green hydrogen production, increase electrolyser manufacturing capacity, and increase its nuclear capacity three-fold by 2032 (6.8 GW at the end of 2021).

Hydrogen would be a key part of the future energy mix, with Saudi ambitions to produce 4 million mt/year of "clean" hydrogen by 2030.

Most of the hydrogen currently produced in the US is made through steam-methane reforming whereby methane reacts with high-temperature steam to produce carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen.

The AMAN project, located in the Dakhlet Nouadhibou and Inchiri regions of Mauritania, will include 18GW of wind capacity and 12GW of solar capacity.

The European Commission has approved state aid worth €5.2bn for a second wave of hydrogen related Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI), helping to reduce dependence on natural gas and accelerate the hydrogen economy.

Renewable generation sources include conventional hydropower, wind, solar, geothermal, and biomass. In the United States, most renewable electricity generation comes from hydropower, solar, and wind.

Canada is already a global leader in blue hydrogen production, or that produced using natural gas feedstocks paired with carbon capture.

U.S. electricity generation from renewable sources, such as hydropower, wind, and solar, accounted for 20% of electricity generation both in 2020 and in 2021.

The areas of potential cooperation include upstream and downstream businesses, engineering and construction, oilfield services, carbon capture and hydrogen.

Saudi Arabia would be looking to secure investments in untapped business sectors, including green hydrogen, renewable energy, and information technology.

For the first five months of 2022, solar, wind, and other renewable energy sources provided 25.7% of U.S. electricity – more than either coal or nuclear power and up from 22.9% a year earlier.

Hydrogen is becoming a more versatile fuel, however, and is receiving interest in energy storage, as a transportation fuel, as a fuel for electricity generation, and as a fuel for heating.

Green means the hydrogen has been made using electricity and from renewable sources. But as with electric cars, the environmental footprint is determined by the power mix carbon intensity if it is connected to the grid.
