Keeping the rise of global temperatures below 2 degrees Celsius means reducing energy-related carbon dioxide emissions by more than 70 per cent by 2050 (compared to 2015 levels). Analysis by IRENA for the G20 Presidency has shown that renewable energy and energy efficiency could potentially achieve 90 per cent of those reductions.

Wind and solar developers together have added about 40 gigawatts to the U.S. grid over the past two years, bringing total installed wind and solar capacity to about 120 gigawatts.

Qatar and Russia have long been rivals in global gas markets. Qatar's supplies came under the spotlight in the past month after Saudi Arabia cut economic and diplomatic ties, in a move ratcheting up a wider violent and diplomatic conflict in the Middle East.

Creditor banks to India's Essar Oil approved the acquisition of the company by a group including Russia's Rosneft, two sources familiar with the matter said, removing a key hurdle to the $12.9 billion deal that has been in the works for two years.

China plans to invest 2.5 trillion yuan (US$368 billion) into renewable energy projects during the 2016-2020 period, creating more than 13 million jobs in the sector, according to the National Energy Administration.

Bob Dudley, BP group chief executive, said: “Global energy markets are in transition. The longer-term trends we can see in this data are changing the patterns of demand and the mix of supply as the world works to meet the challenge of supplying the energy it needs while also reducing carbon emissions. At the same time markets are responding to shorter-run run factors, most notably the oversupply that has weighed on oil prices for the past three years."

BP and RIL partnered in 2011 when BP acquired 30% interest in multiple oil and gas blocks in India operated by RIL, including the producing Block KGD6. RIL currently operates KGD6 with 60% interest, while BP still holds 30% and Niko Resources Ltd. has the remaining 10%.

"It is worth taking the risk at $1 billion because it opens a huge market. We are perfectly conscious of some risks. We have taken into account (sanctions) snap-backs, we have to take into account regulation changes," Pouyanne said in an interview.

В своем выступлении первый замглавы ведомства отметил, что трансформация российской энергетики – сегодня не самоцель, а объективная задача государственного значения. «Мы живем в один из самых динамичных периодов в истории человечества. Технологии стремительно меняет нашу жизнь. Компаниям и государствам важно сохранять гибкость и открытость к новым идеям, чтобы не отстать в этой гонке», – подчеркнул Алексей Текслер.

В своем докладе Глава «Роснефти» заявил, что период низких нефтяных цен надолго, в настоящее время цены зафиксировались в диапазоне от 45 до 50 долларов за баррель Брент, а волатильность рынков и неопределенность значительно выросли. «Нынешняя «передышка» не должна нас успокаивать, - заявил Игорь Сечин, – условий для стабильной работы рынка пока не создано. Ряд крупных производителей, которые не участвуют в договоренностях, активно используют конъюнктуру для усиления собственной рыночной позиции, что, скорее, создает предпосылки для новой нестабильности, нежели для выхода на траекторию устойчивого роста».
