U.S. OIL&GAS PRODUCTION WILL UP ANEW
EIA, OGJ - Crude oil production from the seven major US onshore producing regions is forecast to increase 117,000 b/d month-over-month in September to 6.149 million b/d, according to the US Energy Information Administration's latest Drilling Productivity Report.
Natural gas production from the regions is seen climbing 929 MMcfd during the month to 59.426 bcfd.
The DPR this month was updated to add the Anadarko region and combine the Marcellus and Utica regions into a single Appalachian region.
As of July, the Anadarko region, which covers 24 counties in Oklahoma and 5 in Texas, had 129 rigs working, second to only the Permian with 373 rigs working. Anadarko's count of drilled but uncompleted (DUC) wells in July was 948, up 42 from its June total.
Oil production in the Anadarko region is forecast to grow 12,000 b/d month-over-month in September to 459,000 b/d, according to the DPR. Its gas output is expected to increase 78 MMcfd during the month to 6.057 bcfd.
As for the Appalachia change, EIA explains that previous regional definitions based on surface boundaries are becoming less meaningful, especially where the two plays overlap, as an increasing number of wells in Pennsylvania are being drilled into the Utica formation and some wells in Ohio produce from the Marcellus shale.
Gas production from Appalachia is projected to gain 350 MMcfd month-over-month in September to 24.649 bcfd, almost three times that of the second-leading region. Its DUC tally dropped in July by 13 to 711.
In addition to the Anadarko region and Appalachia, the DPR covers the Bakken, Eagle Ford, Haynesville, Niobrara, and Permian, tracking the total number of active drilling rigs, drilling productivity, and estimated changes in production from existing oil and natural gas wells in those regions.
More Permian growth seen
Permian oil production is forecast to rise 64,000 b/d in September to 2.601 million b/d. Gas production from the basin is expected to increase 160 MMcfd during the month to 8.671 bcfd. The Permian as of July had 2,330 DUC wells, up 125 from its June total.
EIA projects the Niobrara to provide the second-largest oil output increase during September with a 15,000-b/d rise to 498,000 b/d. Gas production there is expected to gain 100 MMcfd in September to 4.905 bcfd. Its July DUC count totaled 674, up 6 month-over-month.
Eagle Ford oil output is seen rising 14,000 b/d in September to 1.393 million b/d. Gas production from the South Texas shale region is forecast to increase 63 MMcfd during the month to 6.317 bcfd. Its DUC tally for July was 1,410, up 35 month-over-month.
Bakken oil production during September is projected to grow 10,000 b/d to 1.054 million b/d. The North Dakota shale region's gas output is seen rising 26 MMcfd to 1.95 bcfd. Its count of DUC wells in July edged down 2 to 782.
Haynesville gas production is expected to climb 152 MMcfd in September to 6.877 bcfd. The North Louisiana-East Texas shale region in July had 194 DUCs, up 5 from its June count.
Baker Hughes' data show that overall US rig count growth, including in the Permian and Oklahoma, has slowed in recent weeks.
Some US exploration and production firms have trimmed their capital budgets for 2017 and revised their drilling and completions plans for the second half in response to lower-than-expected crude prices.
