RUSSIA - INDIA - BANGLADESH NUCLEAR

РОССИЯ - ИНДИЯ - БАНГЛАДЕШ: АЭС

ROSATOMMOSCOW, March 1, 2018 – ROSATOM, the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and the Department of Atomic Energy of the Government of the Republic of India signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the implementation of the Rooppur NPP construction project in Bangladesh.

On the Russian side, the memorandum was signed by Deputy Director General for international relations of the State Corporation Rosatom Nikolay Spassky and on the Bangladesh and India side – the Ambassador of Bangladesh in the Russian Federation S. M. Saiful Hoque and the Ambassador of India in the Russian Federation Pankaj Saran respectively.

The Russian side is building a nuclear power plant in Bangladesh on a "turnkey" basis. The general construction contractor is JSC Atomstroyexport (part of the Engineering Division of ROSATOM). The scope of work includes design, production and supply of equipment, construction, installation, start-up and commissioning. The Memorandum set a framework for the interaction of the Russian Contractor, Indian and Bangladeshi experts in the implementation of works related to the project. The parties, in particular, will cooperate in the field of personnel training, exchange of experience and consulting support. Indian companies can be involved in construction and installation works, the supply of materials and equipment of a non-critical category in the interests of the project.

"Today was a landmark event for both of our countries – and the industry as a whole. We are confident that this is the first step toward the formation of a new, forward-looking cooperation agenda in the region, - says Nikolay Spassky, - ROSATOM is a global company and a world leader in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. We are open to cooperation in the framework of our projects. The signing of the Memorandum is another illustration of our approach.

RUSSIAN NUCLEAR POWER - 2017

WNA - Apart from adding capacity, utilisation of existing plants has improved markedly since 2000. In the 1990s capacity factors averaged around 60%, but they have steadily improved since and in 2010, 2011 and 2014 were above 81%. Balakovo was the best plant in 2011 with 92.5%, and again in 2014 with 85.1%.

NUCLEAR - 2050: 25%

WNN - According to the Foratom statement, World Nuclear Association Director General Agneta Rising said: "By 2050, nuclear energy must account for 25% of energy generation if we are to meet our climate targets. With nuclear making up 11% of generation in 2014, an extra 1000 GWe in nuclear capacity will need to be built by 2050. However, meeting this goal will not be easy."

EIA: NUCLEAR ENERGY WILL UP

EIA projects that global nuclear capacity will grow at an average annual rate of 1.6% from 2016 through 2040, led predominantly by countries outside of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). EIA expects China to continue leading world nuclear growth, followed by India. This growth is expected to offset declines in nuclear capacity in the United States, Japan, and countries in Europe.

RUSSIAN - INDIAN NUCLEAR

ROSATOM - "Historically, India is one of our key foreign partners. Two power units of Russian design are already operating on the Kudankulam NPP site and two more are under construction. To increase the state corporation's market presence, it was decided to open a regional center in Mumbai. This will enable us to join forces with our Indian partners and enhance the performance of Russian nuclear enterprises operating in India," said Aleksey Pimenov, the Regional President of Rosatom South Asia.
