STATOIL CONTRACTS: NOK 12 BLN

STATOIL CONTRACTS: NOK 12 BLN

STATOILStatoil has awarded drilling contracts to Archer, KCA Deutag and Odfjell Drilling for drilling, completion, intervention services, plugging, maintenance and modifications on 18 of Statoil's fixed platforms.

The contracts take effect from 1 October 2018, initially for a period of four years. The total value is estimated at more than NOK 12 billion. The contracts include three two-year extension options. The work will employ around 2000 people per year.

"Safe and efficient operations are our number one priority. These contract awards will help ensure safe and efficient well deliveries, and sustain a high level of activities on the Norwegian continental shelf. A resilient manpower base capable of performing the required scope of work has been an important selection criterion," says Geir Tungesvik, Statoil's senior vice president, drilling & well.

Long-term contracts will increase the predictability and ensure stable operating conditions for the suppliers and Statoil.

"The contracts provide us with a good foundation for close and predictable collaboration. We thus facilitate safe and efficient operations. The contracts are aimed at improving our joint competitiveness and enabling a sound level of activities," says Statoil's chief procurement officer, Pål Eitrheim.

One of the intentions of the contracts is to improve the collaboration between Statoil, the drilling contractors and service contractors. A common incentive programme will stimulate safe and efficient operations through close collaboration and integration of work.

The drilling contracts apply to the following installations:

NORWAY'S OIL PROBLEMS

BLOOMBERG - Norway’s oil production has been halved since a 2000 peak. While natural-gas output has surged, total production is forecast to fall again in the middle of the next decade. A flurry of investment decisions at the end of last year hides a painful truth: after Statoil’s $6 billion Johan Castberg oil field starts production in the Barents in 2022, the project pipeline is scant.

"Brazil is a core area for Statoil where our ambition is to deliver safe and sustainable growth in a significant energy market. Entering into solar in Brazil adds to the positions we have already in the producing Peregrino oil field and in the offshore licenses BM-S-8 and BM-C-33 which include the yet to be developed discoveries Carcará and Pão de Açúcar respectively. We are excited to have entered our first solar project with an experienced partner like Scatec Solar," says Irene Rummelhoff, Executive Vice President of New Energy Solutions in Statoil.

The balance between demand and supply in the oil market will shift earlier than previously expected due to OPEC's output cuts, with prices heading towards $60 a barrel next year, Statoil's chief executive said on Tuesday. Brent crude futures LCOc1 hit $55 a barrel on Monday, the highest level since July 2015, after OPEC agreed on Dec. 1 to curb production by 1.2 million barrels per day (bpd) from January.
