GERMANY'S SOLAR CAPACITY UP 2 GW

GERMANY'S SOLAR CAPACITY UP 2 GW

PLATTSGermany has added over 2 GW of new solar capacity over the past year as the rebound for the sector accelerates and annual additions are on track for the strongest growth since 2013, the latest monthly data from the federal grid regulator showed Tuesday.

343 MW added in June with total now above 44.3 GW 2018 on track for biggest annual gain since 2013 July solar output at all-time high above 6.5 TWh.

Total installed solar PV capacity now stands at 44.323 GW, it said.

Additions in the first six months of 2018 are up by over 40% on the year at 1.3 GW with 343 MW added in June alone.

Overall solar growth is still well below levels seen during the boom years 2010-12 when Germany added some 20 GW in just three years before sharp cuts to subsidies with the government also introducing a ceiling of 52 GW.

New additions, however, come at a fraction of the cost as Germany has moved from fixed feed-in-tariffs to competitive auction for ground-based solar projects.

Auction prices for such projects fell from Eur92/MWh in 2015 to under Eur50/MWh in the latest tenders this year.

Solar output in the first half 2018 rose by 8% to a record 23.6 TWh, the BSW lobby group said, based on TSO data with July on track to set another record with monthly output above 6.5 TWh.
