U.S. RIGS DOWN 13 TO 1,044

BAKER HUGHES A GE  U.S. Rig Count is down 13 rigs from last week to 1,044, with oil rigs down 9 to 860, gas rigs down 4 to 182, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at 2. U.S. Rig Count is up 104 rigs from last year's count of 940, with oil rigs up 101, gas rigs up 2, and miscellaneous rigs up 1.  The U.S. Offshore Rig Count is down 3 rigs to 18 and up 1 rig year-over-year.

Canada Rig Count is up 17 rigs from last week to 229, with oil rigs up 12 to 153 and gas rigs up 5 to 76. Canada Rig Count is up 12 rigs from last year's count of 217, with oil rigs up 38 and gas rigs down 26.

U.S. - CHINA: COUNTERPRODUCTIVE

U.S. API - API emphasized the counterproductive effects of Section 301 tariffs on America’s natural gas and oil sector, underscoring the damaging impact that Chinese retaliatory tariffs would have on U.S. LNG exports, and urged the Administration not to impose additional tariffs on Chinese products at today’s hearing before the U.S. Trade Representative on Section 301.

U.S. OIL PRODUCTION 10.7 MBD

U.S. API - The American Petroleum Institute’s latest monthly statistical report shows the U.S. set a record for the production of natural gas liquids (NGL) last month producing 4.4 million barrels per day (mb/d). July also saw the U.S. tie its record for crude oil production at 10.7 mb/d.

U.S. OIL PRODUCTION + 93 TBD, GAS PRODUCTION + 1,007 MCFD

U.S. EIA - Crude oil production from the major US onshore regions is forecast to increase 93,000 b/d month-over-month in August from 7,429 to 7,522 thousand barrels/day , gas production to increase 1,007 million cubic feet/day from 71,413 to 72,420 million cubic feet/day .

U.S. ENERGY EFFICIENCY UP

U.S. EIA - U.S. energy expenditures declined for the fifth consecutive year, reaching $1.0 trillion in 2016, a 9% decrease in real terms from 2015. Adjusted for inflation, total energy expenditures in 2016 were the lowest since 2003. Expressed as a percent of gross domestic product (GDP), total energy expenditures were 5.6% in 2016, the lowest since at least 1970.
