GAZPROM - MITSUI COOPERATION

СОТРУДНИЧЕСТВО ГАЗПРОМА И MITSUI

GAZPROM - A working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Masami Iijima, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mitsui & Co., Ltd., took place at the 4th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.

The parties discussed the ongoing cooperation on the Sakhalin II project and the prospects for collaboration between the companies. In particular, the meeting addressed the construction of the third train of the Sakhalin II LNG plant. Alexey Miller and Masami Iijima also considered the avenues for cooperation in the area of small- and mid-scale LNG in the Far East.

As part of the meeting, Gazprom and Mitsui signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Baltic LNG project.

Background

Japan's Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (Mitsui) is focused on the development, purchase and sale, distribution and processing of all types of energy products in Japan and overseas, as well as on financial activities.

Gazprom and Mitsui are partners in the Sakhalin II project, which includes Russia's first LNG plant. The Sakhalin II operator is Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd.

In September 2016, Gazprom and Mitsui signed the Memorandum of Understanding on LNG bunkering.

In December 2016, Gazprom and Mitsui signed the Agreement of Strategic Cooperation. The document envisages collaboration in various areas, including Sakhalin II project expansion and LNG bunkering.

In September 2017, Gazprom and Mitsui inked the Framework Agreement for cooperation on small- and mid-scale LNG.

Если говорить о сотрудничестве в газовой сфере, это увеличение поставок СПГ в Японию, возможность участия компаний и банков этой страны в возведении второй очереди "Ямал СПГ" (речь идет о проекте завода по сжижению природного газа "Арктик СПГ-2" на полуострове Гыдан — прим. ред.). В ходе переговоров представители японской стороны также отметили, что очень довольны итогами своего участия в "Сахалине-2" и проявляют интерес к финансированию и строительству третьей очереди СПГ-завода "Сахалин-2". Кроме того, они также хотели бы расширить поставки углеводородов с сахалинских проектов.

The Asian market is one of the key priorities for Gazprom and Sakhalin’s energy plays a significant role in the company’s strategy. This year the Sakhalin II project is celebrating its 10th anniversary. It is one of the world’s largest integrated, export-oriented gas and oil projects that became possible after the first ever Russian production sharing agreement in 1994. Sakhalin II is managed and operated by Sakhalin Energy Company and its shareholders: Gazprom (50% and 1 share), Shell (27.5% minus 1 share), Mitsui (12,5%), Mitsubishi (10%). It includes the only Russian LNG plant with 13.2 bcm annual capacity.
