GERMAN SOLAR ENERGY UP 54%

GERMAN SOLAR ENERGY UP 54%

PLATTS - Germany added 2 GW of new solar photovoltaic capacity in the first half of 2019, 54% up on H1 2018 as the sector recovery continues, monthly data from federal grid regulator Bundesnetzagentur showed.

German installed solar PV capacity now stands at 47.95 GW, the regulator said.

Additions in June of 235 MW remained below the Q1 2019 average, with feed-in tariff support to be cut a further 1.4% for the August to October period.

Feed-in rates for the smallest residential solar PV units have now fallen below Eur100/MWh, while sliding premiums for large ground-based solar PV projects awarded in auctions have dipped below Eur50/MWh.

Last year, German solar capacity grew at the fastest rate since 2013 with 3 GW added.

Solar groups have called on the government to cancel the 52 GW ceiling, after which subsidies are to end for roof-top units.

Meanwhile, German solar output in July was down 7% on year at 6.4 TWh, TSO data aggregated by Fraunhofer ISE showed.

Output for the first seven months was flat on year at 30.5 TWh.

German solar generated a record 46 TWh in 2018, covering 8% of electricity demand. Almost three quarters of solar power is generatedbetween April and September.
