FRANCE'S NUCLEAR POWER UP 1.8%

FRANCE'S NUCLEAR POWER UP 1.8%

REUTERS- French nuclear electricity generation rose 1.8% to 27.8 terawatt hour (TWh) in August compared with the same month a year ago due to fewer unplanned outages and fewer heatwaves that can affect plant output, EDF said on Friday.

The state controlled utility, which operates France's 58 nuclear reactors, said total atomic power generated since the start of the year stood at 260.7 TWh at the end of August, up 0.8 TWh year-on-year.

EDF's nuclear generation stood at 393.2 TWh in 2018 and it is targeting 395 TWh in 2019.

Nuclear generation fell 2.3% to 29.2 TWh in July as two heatwave spells at the end of June and in July, as well as a prolonged drought, forced the company to cut production.

EDF said nuclear power generation at its reactors in Britain fell 24.1% in August to 4.1 TWh as an ongoing outage at its Hunterston B-7 reactor on the west coast of Scotland continued to impact output.

Electricity generation in Britain since the start of the year was 32.2 TWh at the end of August, down 20.8%.
