U.S. LNG STOP $7 BLN
ENERDATA - 4 Nov 2020 - Engie has halted talks over a 20-year US LNG import contract with NextDecade worth US$7bn (€5.7bn). The two companies were discussing the sale of shale-based LNG produced at NextDecade's Rio Grande LNG project in Brownsville, Texas (United States).
NextDecade is currently developing the 27 Mt/year LNG export project, which is facing opposition over environmental concerns. The first 17.6 Mt/year phase of the Rio Grande LNG project is expected in 2023 at the earliest. The project received authorisation from the US Department of Energy (DoE) to export LNG to Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in September 2016 and a final environmental impact statement (EIS) from the US FERC in April 2019.
