GREECE RENEWABLE INVESTMENT $2.5 BLN
RENEWABLESNOW - December 28 (Renewables Now) - The Greek government has given its nod to investment plans supporting the deployment of over 2.8 GW of wind and solar power capacity.
The four projects call for a combined investment of EUR 2.02 billion (USD 2.47bn), local newspaper Kathimerini reported last week. The largest portion, of EUR 888.1 million, will be spent on the installation of 1.5 GW of solar photovoltaic (PV) parks across 12 regional units in Central and Northern Greece. Their proponent is Greek construction company Egnatia Group.
Around EUR 585 million will be poured by domestic renewable power producer Terna Energy (ATH:TENERGY) into the construction of 18 wind farms. To be located in the coastal town of Karystos, on the island of Evia, the power plants will have a combined capacity of 360 MW.
Separately, five wind parks totalling 120.3 MW will be installed in the Thrace region, at a total cost of EUR 121.3 million.
Food packaging firm and hotel operator Karatzis SA, meanwhile, plans to build 37 solar plants that will add 830 MW of clean energy capacity in Larissa, Magnesia and Kilkis. Its estimated investment in the project amounts to EUR 421.6 million.
The four projects will create more than 300 jobs.
