WIND POWER FOR INEOS 198 GWH
RENEWABLES NOW - December 17 -From next year, chemicals maker Ineos will be buying 198 GWh of power annually from the 219-MW Northwester 2 offshore wind park in Belgian waters.
The company and German energy group RWE AG (ETR:RWE) announced today the signing of a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for the output from roughly 56 MW of capacity at the wind farm. The electricity will go directly to Ineos sites in Belgium.
The chemicals firm estimates that the contract would reduce its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in Belgium by a total of 745,000 tonnes.
Ineos announced in September another offshore wind PPA for electricity from the 370-MW Norther offshore wind farm in Belgium. The two deals together reach about 500 GWh of green power supply per year from 140 MW of capacity. The combined emissions saved during the life of the two contracts will come near 2 million tonnes of CO2.
Operated by Belgian offshore wind developer Parkwind, Northwester 2 has 23 pieces of 9.5-MW turbines installed off the coast of Zeebrugge. Its full output has been marketed by RWE Supply & Trading since the spring of 2020, when the park went online.
