U.S. PRIMARY ENERGY CONSUMPTION 100 QUADRILLION BTU

U.S. EIA - On March 26, 2020, EIA released its primary report on recent and historical energy statistics, the Monthly Energy Review (MER). Preliminary estimates for 2019 indicate that

· U.S. primary energy production totaled 101 quadrillion British thermal units (Btu), setting a new record high and exceeding primary energy consumption for the first time since 1957. Crude oil production and natural gas plant liquids production each increased 11% from 2018, dry natural gas production increased 10%, renewable energy production increased 1%, nuclear electric power production increased less than 1%, and coal production decreased 7%. 

· U.S. primary energy consumption totaled 100 quadrillion Btu, a 1% decrease from 2018. Natural gas consumption increased 3%, renewable energy consumption and nuclear electric power consumption each increased less than 1%, petroleum consumption decreased less than 1%, and coal consumption decreased 14%. 

· U.S. primary energy exports equaled 24 quadrillion Btu, setting a new record high and exceeding primary energy imports for the first time since 1952. U.S. primary energy imports totaled 23 quadrillion Btu, an 8% decrease from 2018.
