INDIA'S SOLAR POWER UP 28%

RENEWABLES NOW - May 7  - Solar power generation in India marked a 28% year-on-year increase in fiscal 2019/20, albeit the growth was the smallest one in the past six years, show statistics by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).

India's solar photovoltaic (PV) parks produced 50.1 billion kWh of electricity in the fiscal year through end-March 2020, as compared to 39.3 billion kWh a year back. Solar power output in the last fiscal quarter alone totalled 15.3 billion kWh, up from 11.4 billion in annual terms.

Solar power was responsible for 3.6% of the country's overall power production in fiscal 2019/20, which came at 1.39 billion kWh. This percentage compares with 4.65% for wind power generation and 11.21% for hydroelectric power.

According to consultancy Mercom Capital Group, India had about 372 GW of installed power production assets at the end of March 2020, including 134.7 GW of renewables. The contribution of solar in the overall renewables capacity is about 27.2%.
