WIND POWER FOR FRANCE

WIND POWER FOR FRANCE

RENEWABLWES NOW - May 7 (Renewables Now) - Dutch marine contractor Van Oord has been selected to transport and install foundation structures for the 496-MW Saint Brieuc offshore wind project in French waters.

The company was awarded the job by Ailes Marines SAS, the Saint-Brieuc project owner and developer. Van Oord will transport and install 62 jacket foundations and the foundation piles for the offshore substation, it said on Wednesday.

The offshore operations will commence in 2021 when Van Oord's installation vessel Aeolus will be deployed to fix the pin piles. In 2022, the Aeolus will be assisted by a second vessel for the installation of jacket foundations.

The Saint-Brieuc wind farm will be constructed some 16 kilometres (9.94 miles) off the coast of Brittany. It will be equipped with 62 units of 8-MW turbines supplied by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE).

Van Oord joins the list of contractors and suppliers which, besides Siemens Gamesa, includes a Spanish joint venture between shipbuilder Navantia and wind tower maker Windar Renovables SL, jacket foundations designer Atkins Ltd of the SNC-Lavalin Group, and cable maker Nexans SA (EPA:NEX).
