UZBEKISTAN'S RENEWABLE ENERGY GOAL
Uzbekistan to reach its 3 GW wind and 5 GW solar power capacities goal by 2030
Uzbekistan set an ambitious goal of reaching 3 GW wind and 5 GW solar power capacities by 2030. In light of recent developments, these goals look quite achievable.
IFC has already reached the commercial close of Scaling Solar I Pilot 100 MW PV Project in Navoi and is about to launch the Scaling Solar II RFQ for 200 MW PV Plant in Djizak and 200 MW PV Plant in Samarkand. IFC also plans to commence the Scaling Solar III for 500 MW PV Plant with batteries.
ADB Solar Program was commenced earlier this year with the RFQ for 200 MW Sherabad PV Plant. ADB Solar Program has a total mandate of 1 GW to be tendered within two years.
EBRD Wind Auction Program was also approved by the Government for 1 GW.
In addition, there are some bilateral deals for solar and wind energy including, most notably, Total-EREN, Masdar, and ACWA Power.
Invest In Network, a UK-based consultancy, in cooperation with Centil Law Firm, has covered Uzbekistan’s power generation development goals for 2020-2030 focusing on renewable energy generation.
Among other topics, the following issues have been addressed:
- The main obstacles to the development of renewable energy in Uzbekistan;
- Renewable energy tenders held starting from the publication of the “CONCEPT NOTE for ensuring electricity supply in Uzbekistan in 2020-2030” in August 2019;
- Reform proposals for the regulation of the power sector.

UZBEKISTAN'S NUCLEAR POWER
Four projects aimed at building up Uzbekistan's technical capacity, human resources, developing nuclear infrastructure, and strengthening nuclear and radiation safety have been approved by the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA's) board of governors. The Central Asian country aims to have two nuclear power reactors in operation by 2030.

LUKOIL'S PRODUCTION 2.3 MBD
For the six months of 2019 LUKOIL Group's average hydrocarbon production excluding the West Qurna-2 project was 2,352 thousand boe per day, which is 2.8% higher year-on-year. The increase was mainly driven by the development of gas projects in Uzbekistan, as well as oil production growth in Russia due to change in terms of the external limitations of Russian companies' production volumes.

WBG FOR UZBEKISTAN: $4 BLN
The World Bank has rapidly scaled up its support to Uzbekistan since the start of the country’s social and economic transformation in 2017. The World Bank program in Uzbekistan is among its largest in the Europe and Central Asia region, with 22 projects totaling $4.08 billion. The program is focusing on economic and institutional reforms, agriculture, health, education, water supply and sanitation, energy, transport, social protection system, and urban development.
