VIETNAM COAL POWER 1.2 GW
ENERDATA- 21 Jan 2021 - The Prime Minister of Vietnam has authorised the 1,200 MW (2x600 MW) Quang Trach 2 coal-fired power project in the Quang Binh province. The power plant, which is developed by Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), requires a VND41,000bn (US$1.8bn) investment. The government has also approved the 1,400 MW (2x700 MW) Quang Trach 1 coal-fired power plant. The projects began in 2011 but have been facing major delays ever since.
In July 2020, A consortium of Phu Xuan Consulting and Construction, Pacific Group and Hydraulic Engineering Construction signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to develop the coal port and jetty of the Quang Trach power plants. The coal port and jetty will receive 7.2 Mt/year of coal to feed the power plant. Investments are estimated to be around VND 4,820bn (US$208m).
