WIND POWER FOR FRANCE 1 GW
ENERDATA - 26 Jan 2021 - The French government has officially launched the 500 MW to 1 GW fixed-bottom offshore wind project off the island of Oléron in western France. The plant would be located off the port of La Cotinière in a zone covering 300 km2, included in a protected area. The National Commission for Public Debate will initiate public consultation on the project.
In December 2020, the French government selected an area located 32 km off the coast of Cotentin (Normandy) to build a 1 GW offshore wind project. The tender is scheduled in 2022. The government’s current multi-year energy plan targets 2.3 GW of offshore wind capacity in 2023 and at least 5 GW by 2028. France has already awarded 7 offshore wind projects and 2.5 GW to 3 GW of offshore wind projects should be auctioned by 2024.
