EUROPEAN COAL BAN

EUROPEAN COAL BAN

ENERDATA - 19 Nov 2021 - The European Commission has launched a review of State aid aimed at ensuring its consistency with the EU climate goals. The revised EEAG, also called Climate, Environmental Protection and Energy Aid Guidelines (CEEAG), foreseen to apply from 2022, is likely to ban state support for projects involving fossil fuels, in particular oil, coal and lignite. In addition, EU countries requesting permission for state aid for fossil gas projects would need to explain how they will ensure such investments comply with the European Green Deal and avoid locking in emissions for future years. The draft CEEAG proposes to facilitate aid for the acquisition of zero/low carbon emission vehicles and for investments in the related recharging and refuelling infrastructures and will enable support for greener production processes.
