ENERDATA - 16 Nov 2021 - The German energy group RWE plans to invest €50bn through 2030 to expand its renewables capacity to 50 GW in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific. Capacity addition, including green hydrogen, should average 2.5 GW/year until 2030, compared to 1.5 GW/year in the previous plan. The company intends to build up 3 GW of battery capacity by the end of the decade, and 2 GW of electrolyser capacity. In addition, RWE aims at tripling its offshore wind capacity by 2030 from 2.4 GW to 8 GW and expanding its onshore wind and solar capacity from 7 GW to 20 GW. Finally, the company plans to add at least 2 GW of gas-fired capacity by 2030. Total investment is expected to average €5bn/year through the decade, with 90% of that sum allocated to wind, solar and batteries. RWE has currently an installed capacity of 42.2 GW (end of 2020), with 14.6 GW of gas (35%), 12.3 GW of coal (29%), 8.5 GW of wind (20%), 2.9 GW of hydro (7%) and 2.8 GW of nuclear (7%).
