WIND ENERGY FOR VIETNAM 3.9 GW

WIND ENERGY FOR VIETNAM 3.9 GW

ENERDATA- 10 Nov 2021 - Denmark’s Ørsted has proposed a three-phase 3.9 GW offshore wind project off the port of Hai Phong in northern Vietnam, with an estimated investment between US$11.9bn and US$13.6bn. The project, which would be located 14 km southeast of Bach Long Vy island and 36 km northwest of Long Chau archipelago, could produce up to 13.7 TWh/year (5% of Vietnam's power generation in 2019). The Danish company applied to local authorities for permission to start site surveys.

Wind account for around 1% of Vietnam’s installed capacity, with 600 MW (2020). As part of the draft PDP VIII, the government aims to substantially develop wind capacity to over 11-12 GW in 2025 and to over 18-19 GW in 2030 (12% of total capacity in 2025 and 13% in 2030).
