EIA - North Sea Brent crude oil spot prices averaged $65 per barrel (b) in February, a decrease of $4/b from the January level and the first month-over-month average decrease since June 2017. EIA forecasts Brent spot prices will average about $62/b in both 2018 and 2019 compared with an average of $54/b in 2017.

SOUTH AFRICA'S RENEWABLES 2.6 GW
ENERDATA - 15 Feb 2021 - South Africa plans to issue a request for proposal for 2,600 MW from wind and solar projects as part of Bid Window 5 in the coming weeks. Another bid window is scheduled in August 2021. The country should be announcing soon the successful bids for 2,000 MW of emergency power. According to Eskom, there will be an electricity supply shortfall of between 4,000 and 5,000 MW over the next five years, as old coal-fired power plants reach their end of life. In the medium term, South Africa aims at procuring an additional 11,800 MW of power from renewable energy, natural gas, battery storage and coal.
In addition, South African authorities intend to ease licensing requirements for new embedded generation projects, which could unlock up to 5,000 MW of additional capacity.

SOUTH AFRICA'S RENEWABLES 6.8 GW
South Africa intends to launch three tenders for 6.8 GW of renewable energy sources and 5 GW of new coal, gas, and storage projects in 2021-2022.
