UZBEKISTAN'S RENEWABLE 1.5 GW

ENERDATA5 May 2021 - ACWA Power has signed an implementation agreement with the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade and the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan to build a 1.5 GW wind project in Karakalpakstan, in western Uzbekistan. The Saudi energy group is already developing the 1,500 MW Sirdarya CCGT power project in Uzbekistan, which entered construction in January 2021. In addition, ACWA Power has signed two power purchase and investment agreements for two wind power plants with a total capacity of 1,000 MW, the Bash project located in Bukhara and the Dzhankeldy project in Bukhara/Navoi, worth US$1.3bn.

The RPS system was introduced in 2012 with an initial mandatory quota of 2%, which has been gradually raised to 9% in 2021. The policy, implemented through a system of certificate, should be effective from October 2021.
