WIND FOR BRITAIN 10 GW
ENERDATA - 25 May 2021 - Hecate Independent Power, a joint venture of Hecate Wind and Independent Power Corporation, has launched its GBP21bn (€24bn) HIP Atlantic Project in the North Atlantic, aimed at installing 10,000 MW of fixed and floating wind capacity between Iceland and the United Kingdom, that would be connected to the UK power grid. HIP has submitted four connection applications with the British power transmission system operator (TSO) National Grid to connect an initial phase of 4,000 MW (four 1,000 MW offshore wind complexes) to the UK power system, through four 400 kV HVDC submarine transmission cables. The first two offshore wind projects would be developed off the southern and eastern coasts of Iceland and would be commissioned in early 2025, to offset the decommissioning of the last coal-fired power plants in the United Kingdom.
