CANADA'S CLEAN FUEL FUND $1.2 BLN

CANADA'S CLEAN FUEL FUND $1.2 BLN

ENERDATA23 Jun 2021 - The Canadian Department of Natural Resources (Natural Resources Canada) has launched a CAD1.5bn (US$1.2bn) Clean Fuels Fund to increase the domestic production of cleaner fuels. The country has launched a call for proposals to expand the existing supply of hydrogen, renewable diesel, synthetic fuels and cleaner aviation fuels and natural gas blends. The fund will provide up to 30% of total project costs up to a maximum of CAD150m (US$122m), for projects commissioned by the end of March 2026.

The government issued the National Hydrogen Strategy in late 2020. According to the strategy, clean hydrogen has the potential to deliver up to 30% of final energy consumption by 2050 (6% by 2030), abating up to 190 MtCO2eq/year of GHG emissions through deployment in transportation, heating, and industrial applications (45 MtCO2eq/year by 2030).
