CANADA'S NUCLEAR FOR UKRAINE

N -  1 July 2021 - Ukrainian nuclear utility Energoatom and the Canadian Nuclear Industry Organisation (CNIO) signed a letter of intent on 29 June, via a video conference, formalising previously reached agreements on the implementation of projects in the nuclear energy sector jointly with Canadian companies.

In the letter, the parties confirmed their intention to conclude a memorandum of understanding and cooperation in the near future, to clarify the principles and directions of future interaction between Energoatom CNOI.

This should cover construction of new nuclear power units, hydrogen technologies, waste management, production of medical isotopes, harmonisation of regulations and others matters of common interest. The parties also plan to conduct trade missions and seminars to exchange information on the latest world developments in nuclear energy, in particular small modular reactors.

“We expect that the dialogue launched this year will give us an opportunity to find practical common interests for establishing cooperation between Energoatom and Canadian partners,” said Energoatom Acting President Petr Kotin.CNOI President Ron Robert presented more than a dozen Canadian companies interested in co-operation.
