CHINA ENERGY STORAGE +30 GW
ENERDATA - 26 Jul 2021 - China plans to add more than 30 GW of "new energy storage" capacity by 2030, on top of the current storage capacity of about 35 GW that includes 3.3 GW of "new energy storage" (2020). New energy storage consists of processes that rely on electrochemical, compressed air, flywheel, and super capacitor systems.
China aims for renewables to account for at least 50% of its installed capacity by 2050, and energy storage would allow the country to ensure stable operation of the electric grid system. The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) will work on a new energy storage development plan for the 2021-2025 period and will explore converting existing sites of decommissioned thermal power plants to storage facilities, while local energy authorities will make regional plans.
