CHINA GAS PRODUCTION WILL UP

CHINA GAS PRODUCTION WILL UP

ENERDATA28 Jul 2021 - China’s Sinopec plans to increase its domestic gas production by 60% from 2020 levels to reach 48 bcm in 2025, including 13 bcm of shale gas from the Sichuan basin. The company will focus on tapping gas resources in the Sichuan basin in the southwest and Erdos in northern China. Sinopec produced 459 Mboe of oil and gas in 2020 (stable), including 280 mbl of crude oil (-1.4%) and 30 bcm of natural gas (+2.3%).

Since 2010, China’s natural gas output increased on average by 7.5%/year to 195 bcm in 2020. However, the country’s gas independence rate has been progressively decreasing. In 2020, production covered only 60% of the consumption, compared to more than 3/4 in 2010.
