LNG FOR PHILIPPINES

ENERDATA7 Sep 2021 - The Philippines’ Department of Energy (DOE) has approved the permit-to-construct application submitted by the Philippines LNG and gas logistics group Atlantic Gulf & Pacific (AG&P, part-owned by Osaka Gas and JBIC of Japan) for its 3 Mt/year Philippines LNG (PLNG) LNG import and regasification terminal in Batangas Bay on the main island of Luzon. The project will consist in a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), received a notice-to-proceed in March 2021 and should be commissioned by mid-2022.

In March 2021, the Philippine Department of Energy also issued a notice-to-proceed for Shell’s 3 Mt/year LNG import project in Tabangao, Batangas. The LNG terminal is expected to supply two power plants in Subic and Mariveles (Central Luzon) and a petrochemical plant in the country. The LNG import project will be located on the same site as Shell's 110,000 bbl/d Tabangao refinery that was decommissioned in August 2020. Another 5 Mt/year (6.8 bcm/year) FSRU, developed by FGEN LNG and Tokyo Gas, is expected to be commissioned in the Philippines by the end of September 2022.
