NORD STREAM 2 COMPLETED
PLATTS - 10 Sep 2021 - Russian gas giant Gazprom said Sept. 10 that construction work on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline has been fully completed.
"At Gazprom's morning meeting on operations, chairman of the management committee Alexei Miller announced that this morning at 08:45 Moscow time [05:45 GMT] construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was fully completed," Gazprom said on its official telegram channel.
On Sept. 6, Gazprom said that pipelaying work on the project had been completed and commercial operations are expected to begin before the end of 2021. Nord Stream 2 includes two strings of 27.5 Bcm.
Completion of construction follows years of concerns about the impact of US sanctions, which caused numerous delays. In May, US President Joe Biden granted a waiver to both Nord Stream 2 AG and its chief Matthias Warnig, exempting them from sanctions and effectively allowing the pipeline to be completed.
The availability of Nord Stream 2 is a key factor currently impacting the European gas market.
