BRAZIL ELECTRICITY DEMAND UP

ENERDATA21 Jan 2022 - Brazil's electricity demand increased by 4.1% in 2021 to an average of 64.7 GW, according to Cámara de Comercialização de Energia Elétrica (CCEE). Consumption in the regulated sector (65.6% of the total electricity consumption) remained stable (-0.2%) to 42.5 GW, while demand on the free market, which includes industries and large companies (34.4% of the total electriciyt consumption), grew by nearly 14% to 22.2 MW, as some units transitioned from the regulated to the free market.

Hydropower plants delivered an average of 42.5 GW to the grid (-8.8% compared to 2020), followed by thermal plants (16.2 GW, +42.5%), wind (8.2 GW, +27%) and solar (0.9 GW +29%).
