CHINA RENEWABLES +101 GW

CHINA RENEWABLES +101 GW

FORBES - Jan 26, 2022 - New figures show China connected more offshore wind generation capacity last year than every other country in the world managed to install in the last five years.

The data, from the country’s National Energy Administration, indicate that just under 17 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity were installed in 2021. The extraordinary expansion means that China now operates almost half of the world’s installed offshore wind, with 26 gigawatts of a total of 54 gigawatts worldwide.

Presenting the figures, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV said that when taking all solar and wind generation in account, the country added a whopping 101 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity in 2021. By way of comparison, Spain had a total energy generation capacity of about 110 gigawatts in 2020.
