TURKEY ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION UP BY 13%
ENERDATA - 13 Jan 2022 - Turkey's power generation rose by 13% in 2021 compared to 2020, according to the country's power transmission system operator Türkiye Elektrik İletim A.Ş. (TEİAŞ), and electricity exports surged by nearly 69% to 4.2 TWh (imports grew by over 23% to 1.9 TWh). Electricity consumption also increased by 12% in 2021.
The country's installed capacity reached 99.8 GW by the end of 2021 (up from over 96 GW in late 2020). New investments are planned to close the deficit of power from hydropower plants; in the summer of 2021, low water levels and seasonal low wind speeds reduced power supply in a context of heat wave and higher electricity demand.
