CHINA'S WIND ENERGY 43 GW
E - 25 Oct 2022 - The municipal government of the city of Chaozhou, in the Guangdong Province (southern China), has issued a five-year plan for energy development which launches preliminary work on the potential development of two offshore wind projects with a total capacity of 43.3 GW.
The offshore wind projects are expected to be located at two sites in the exclusive economic zone outside the territorial sea line in the south of the Chaozhou city, named Guangdong East Site 6 and Guangdong East Site 7.
10.8 GW of wind capacity would be deployed at Guangdong East Site 6, located between 72 and 160 km offshore Chaozhou city and Shantou city. 32.5 GW would be installed at Guangdong East Site 7, located between 75 and 185 km offshore, southeast of Chaozhou city. The five-year plan also includes other infrastructure such as green hydrogen production facilities and an integrated energy island.
China’s offshore wind capacity stood at 26.4 GW by end-2021. This is the world's largest offshore wind installed capacity, followed by the United Kingdom (12.7 GW). Around 17.4 GW of offshore wind projects were commissioned in 2021. The country’s overall wind capacity reached 328 GW by end-2021. China has more than 24 GW of wind under construction and more than 36 GW under development.
