EUROPEAN RENEWABLES 69%
E - 21 Oct 2022 - The European Commission forecasts that the share of renewables in the European Union power mix should reach 69% in 2030. It averaged 37% in 2021, with 13% of wind and 13% of hydro. Indeed, the REPowerEU plan is expected to help renewables to grow massively, including in all end-use sectors.
The REPowerEU plan, which aims to end the EU’s dependence on Russian fossil fuels and tackle the climate crisis, will seek to raise the share of renewables in the region’s final energy consumption to 45% by 2030. The new target was approved by the European Parliament in September 2022.
The text also includes a an EU Solar Strategy, which intends to double the EU solar capacity by 2025. In term of installed capacity, the regional bloc had 189 GW of wind, 160 GW of solar and 151 GW of hydro at end-2021.
