U.S., INDIA CLEAN ENERGY INITIATIVE
By TODD CARNEY Writer Freelance
ENERGYCENTRAL - Oct 13, 2022 - Around the world, energy resources are becoming even more unreliable. As a result, governments everywhere, including the US government, are attempting to find new sources of energy, through new ways. Last week, the US and India announced that they would partner to develop a clean energy initiative that would utilize load management, among other strategies, to fight climate change and make energy markets more dependable for both nations.
The US and India have continually increased their trade in other sectors, so this has made partnering on energy very easy. Additionally, both countries are facing difficulties with keeping energy prices low, so they have had to look for new initiatives.Furthermore, given that both countries are quite large and use a lot of energy, having a coordinated strategy to reduce the emission of carbon makes sense.
The two nations will coordinate in terms of investing in new technology. They will let each other use their technological advances. As a result, the two nations will be able to more efficiently invest in technological breakthroughs to allow for greater use of green energies. It will take some time to develop those energy sources, so in the meantime they will use and further develop technology such as smart grids. These technological advancements help the nations’ people engage in efficient use of energy.
This technology touches on all aspects of both countries’ societies, by developing further capacity for cars and building to run on non-fossil fuel sources. The goal is likely for these entities to completely run on these sources long-term, but in the meantime, even having things like buildings and cars run partially on non-fossil fuel can help reduce prices for fossil fuels since there will be less demand.
As mentioned above, this initiative also aims to fight climate change by reducing emissions through the use of green technologies. Both countries will also work with the private sector on technological developments.
This all sounds very promising. The US should be doing everything possible to reduce reliance on one energy source. It will be interesting to see if the US partners with other countries to do similar initiatives. Additionally, it remains to be seen what kind of load management technology this initiative can develop, that is not already available in the US. It would be helpful to know if India has had similar grid problems as the US, and if this initiative will seek to address that as well, since it is one of the most pressing problems for the US.
