RENEWABLES FOR GERMANY 1.8 GW

RENEWABLES FOR GERMANY 1.8 GW

E31 Oct 2022 - Germany’s Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) has launched three tenders which intend to award a total of 1,789 MW of solar and onshore wind capacity, as well as innovation projects. The application deadline for the three tenders is set for 1 December 2022.

In the first tender, the Bundesnetzagentur is seeking proposals for 1,190 MW of onshore wind. The competition is open to projects that have received permits by 3 November 2022. Bids in this round must not exceed €6c/kWh.

The second tender plans to award 202.3 MW of solar capacity that will be installed on buildings and noise barriers. The maximum value of the projects was set at around €9c/kWh. In the third tender Germany seeks innovation proposals with a combined capacity of 397.2 MW and a price cap of about €7c/kWh. The projects eligible to compete in this round are broad: wind, solar, energy storage, biomass, geothermal energy and hydropower projects are welcome.

In its latest renewable energy tender in early October 2022, Germany only allocated 772 MW (58%) of the 1,320 MW of onshore wind projects it intended to award, with prices ranging from €5.76c/kWh to €5.88c/kWh. In its previous tender Germany also only allocated 931 MW of the 1,320 MW of onshore wind projects it intended to award.
