AZERBAIJANI GAS FOR EUROPE, TURKEY
ENERDATA - 24 Feb 2022 - Azerbaijan plans to export 16.2 bcm to Europe (10.5 bcm) and Turkey (5.7 bcm) via the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) in 2022. The 16 bcm/year gas pipeline has delivered over 23 bcm of natural gas since its commissioning (June 2018), including 14.5 bcm to Turkey and 9 bcm to Europe. The pipeline's capacity is expected increase to 23 bcm/year in 2023 and then 31 bcm/year in 2026. The final phase will allow the pipeline to transport 60 bcm/year.
The TANAP is the central part of the Southern Gas Corridor, which connects the Shah Deniz gas field in Azerbaijan to Europe through the South Caucasus Pipeline (in Azerbaijan and Georgia) and Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP, from Greece to Albania and Italy).
Azerbaijan's total natural gas exports increased by 40% in 2021 to 18.9 bcm, according to the country's Ministry of Energy. Azerbaijan sold 8.5 bcm of natural gas to Turkey (-23% compared to 2020) and 8.2 bcm to Europe via the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline, which was commissioned in early 2021. Natural gas production increased by 18% to 43.9 bcm.
