SWEDEN WIND TARGET 120 TWH
ENERDATA - 16 Feb 2022 - The Swedish government has selected three offshore wind zones in the Gulf of Bothnia, the Baltic Sea and the North Sea that are expected to supply up to 30 TWh/year of wind power. In addition, the country has mandated the Swedish Energy Agency (Energimyndigheten) to identify suitable areas to enable an additional 90 TWh of power generation at sea. Sweden targets 120 TWh of power generation at sea, which would cover most of its current electricity consumption (around 140 TWh/year).
In 2020, electricity consumption dipped by 3.8% to 123 TWh in 2020 and power generation declined by 3% to 164 TWh. Carbon-free sources accounted for 99% of the production: hydro for 44%, nuclear for 30%, wind for 17% (up from 2% in 2010), and biomass for 9%.
