TURKEY INSTALLED CAPACITY +3.5 GW

ENERDATA23 Feb 2022 - Turkey added 3,446 MW of installed capacity in 2021, including 1,772 MW of wind and 498 MW of solar, according to the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. The country also commissioned 572 MW of biomass, waste heat and geothermal as well as 102 MW of thermal.

The country's installed capacity stood at 99,820 MW at the end of 2021, with 46% of thermal, 32% of hydro, 11% of wind, 8% of solar and 4% of biomass, geothermal, and waste heat. The country's power generation rose by 13% in 2021 compared to 2020, according to the country's power transmission system operator Türkiye Elektrik İletim A.Ş. (TEİAŞ), and electricity exports surged by nearly 69% to 4.2 TWh (imports grew by over 23% to 1.9 TWh). Electricity consumption also increased by 12% in 2021.
