U.S. WIND ENERGY 5.6 GW
ENERDATA - 24 Feb 2022 - The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has initiated a wind auction for 6 wind lease areas totalling nearly 490,000 acres (197,600 hectares) offshore New York and New Jersey (United States), in the area known as the New York Bight. The six lease areas offered in this tender could result in 5.6 GW of offshore wind capacity, generating around 19.6 TWh/year. The BOEM has shortlisted 25 eligible bidders to take part in the auction, including Avangrid (Iberdrola), BP, CPV, EDF, Equinor, GIG Infrastructures, PSEG, RWE, SSE Renewables and US Mainstream Renewable Power.
The United States aims to instal 30 GW of offshore wind by 2030. At the regional level, New York and New Jersey have set the target of installing 16 GW of offshore wind by 2035.
