U.S. WIND 5.6 GW
ENERDATA - 11 Mar 2022 - The House of Representatives of Massachusetts (United States) has passed a bill setting an offshore wind capacity target of 5.6 GW by 2027 (up from a proposed 4,000 MW target), with a minimum for individual solicitations set to 400 MW. The bill is now expected to be signed into law by the State's governor.
Massachusetts had earlier set an offshore wind target of 4 GW by 2027. In November 2021, the 800 MW Vineyard Wind offshore wind project off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts entered construction. The project is developed by Avangrid Renewable (an affiliate of the Spanish energy group Iberdrola) and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), and is expected to start generating power in 2023.
The United States aims to instal 30 GW of offshore wind by 2030. At the regional level, New York and New Jersey have set the target of installing 16 GW of offshore wind by 2035.
