EUROPEAN WIND INVESTMENT €41 BLN, 24.6 GW
ENERDATA - 5 May 2022 - In 2021, €41bn was invested to build new wind plants in Europe, according to Wind Europe, financing a record 24.6 GW of new capacity. In addition, more than 17.3 GW of wind projects changed hands with around €15.6bn of project acquisition. 19 GW of new wind projects were financed in the European Union, well below the required rate of 32 GW/year to meet the current 40% renewable energy targets by 2030. The UK invested the most in new wind plants in 2021, with the final investment decisions (FIDs) taken on Sofia (1.4 GW) and Dogger Bank C (1.2 GW) offshore wind projects raising €8.8bn of capital, followed by Germany and France.
