NORWEGIAN WIND ENERGY FOR SWEDEN 7.75 GW
ENERDATA - 5 May 2022 - The Norwegian company Deep Wind Offshore has initiated a consultation on a 6 GW floating offshore wind project in the Swedish Baltic Sea comprising 240 x 25 MW or 300 x 20 MW turbines. The Erik Segersall project, which would be located in water depths of 100 metres 30 km from Gotska Sandon, 70 km from Faro and 40 km from the Stockholm archipelago, could generate 20-26 TWh/year of electricity.
In addition, the company also intends to build a 1.75 GW fixed-bottom project in the Gulf of Bothnia located just over 40 km from Gavle and 65 km from Soderhamn.
In February 2022, the Swedish government selected three offshore wind zones in the Gulf of Bothnia, the Baltic Sea and the North Sea that are expected to supply up to 30 TWh/year of wind power. In addition, the country mandated the Swedish Energy Agency (Energimyndigheten) to identify suitable areas to enable an additional 90 TWh of power generation at sea. Sweden targets 120 TWh of power generation at sea, which would cover most of its current electricity consumption (around 140 TWh/year).
